Blackville Resource Centre Receives Grant
The Greater Blackville Resource Centre has received a grant in the amount of $1,960 from the Department of Healthy and Inclusive Communities. These funds are in support of the centre’s community-driven project to increase access to healthy food, enhance food skills, and strengthen their community capacity.
Southwest Miramichi MLA Jake Stewart announced at their fundraising yard sale on Saturday, August 24 that their grant application to start a collective kitchen was approved. Collective kitchens (also called community kitchens) are community-based cooking programs where small groups of people come together to prepare meals and take food home to their families. In a community kitchen every member contributes by planning, preparing, and cooking food. Community kitchens are great opportunities for learning about the importance of healthy eating and developing the skills to prepare healthy and affordable meals. More information will be available soon on how you can get involved with a collective kitchen. Watch their website for details: www.BlackvilleResource.com.
This Grant Program contributes to the implementation of the New Brunswick Wellness Strategy, which works to improve mental fitness and resilience, increase physical activity levels, healthy eating and tobacco-free living.
