Josie Foundation Receives $5,000 Donation
For the past four years, the Rotary Club of Chatham have hosted their annual Dragon Boat Festival, with all proceeds going to area groups and organizations. This year, one of the recipients was The Josie Foundation, founded by Blackville resident and current Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin MLA Jake Stewart.
The Josie Foundation is a non-profit incorporated foundation whose aim is to establish, receive and maintain a fund for the relief of economic hardship for individuals and families within the Miramichi area who may be encountering financial difficulty as a result of chronic illness.
Other recipients included the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Each group received $5,000 from the Rotary Club at a ceremony held last week in Chatham.
Rotarian Judy Losier said the groups were very pleased to receive the money and the rotary club was pleased to present it.
“I am pleased, I am, because you know what, you can give $1000 to a bunch of them, but to give $5,000 to three I think is kind of a nice idea,” Losier said.
The Rotary Club of Chatham has announced that this year’s Dragon Boat Festival will be held on August 15th and 16th at Waterford Green in Miramichi.
